In a world like this, it's the privilege of a lifetime to be able to share who we truly are. Thank you for visiting and exploring my work.
In progress
I'm currently working on an experience entitled The Wailing Webb, perhaps the biggest work I've made so far.
This multi-media show is an exploration of communal sadness through the lens of lost love. It is deeply, deeply personal. But.. it's not just a personal endeavor. It's also an effort towards opening a portal for community grieving. This isn't something we do in our culture and I believe it's something we need. Now more than ever.
The work includes stitching what was once my wedding dress into this giant textile web after burying it in the ground for one full year, then digging it back up. The earth returned it to me as weathered cloth panels and it's remains are a major part of the materials being used. I'm also using a whole lot of lace. Much of it was donated by my community. Special thanks to Mardi and Martha for their major contributions!
Other elements of this work will include dance, shadow art and puppetry, costuming, beadwork, edible tears and... your interactions.
I cannot lie, this isn't an easy thing to create. To weave a giant web of sorrow and regret seems an idea born of madness. However it's a necessary step in my own healing journey. By opening up space in this moment for others losses too, I hope to connect and support you in our own process of moving through loss and grief, for this is something we all have in common. The show will offer us all the opportunity to give our symbolic tears to the web and then... let them go.
Date and venue TBA. For updates join my mailing list.
