Imbolc 23 was a ritual performance which opened Alva Northwest's Imbolc Ritual Rave in February of 2023 and my return to movement after more than ten years of a prohibitive injury. It was a Butoh based moment of ceremony exploring the energy root that proceeds our learned delineation of “light and dark” qualities— a wink in time in which to ponder the seeds of sustenance that are entwined with unwanted aspects — tending to the deep connection between our hardest parts and our biggest gifts — in celebration of Imbolc.
It featured immersive sound rendering costuming (lights, bells, corn husks) and music by Sqwyrm aka Elm Outcault and Zhalih as well as singing bowls played live by Avery and Clementine. I baked 99 tiny faerie cakes for the audience to eat.
